warning strikes disrupt cargo handling in Hamburg – HHLA reports limited operations

Dockworkers carry out warning strikes of up to 24 hours at six German seaports, including Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven. Cargo handling companies such as HHLA, Eurogate and J. Müller Weser report limited or temporarily suspended cargo operations. Verdi is demanding an 8.2 percent increase in hourly wages for a one-year term; the employers' association ZDS most recently offered 5.1 percent over 19 months, which Verdi rejects. HHLA: throughput at the Port of Hamburg down in the first half

The Port of Hamburg handled 56.1 million tonnes in the first half, 3.1% less than a year earlier. Container throughput fell 3.8% to four million TEU, mainly due to terminal modernizations and lower mineral oil imports following the war in Iran. Trade with China remained important but declined by 3.4%; business with the USA fell sharply by 13.5%, while trade with Singapore, Finland and India increased. HHLA cuts 2026 forecast after weaker container handling and transport

HHLA now expects a slight year-on-year decline in container handling, instead of the previously forecast strong increase, due to refurbishment work at container terminals and work on the rail network. Container transport is now expected to rise only slightly. Before interest and taxes, the company forecasts earnings of €150 to €170 million instead of the previous €175 to €195 million. » More on finanzen.net
