KDDI boosts profit sharply in first quarter, shares rise
KDDI reports a 5.1% revenue increase in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, adjusted operating income growth of 21% and an adjusted net profit rise of 21.6%. Mobile metrics improved with 33.3 million active smartphones, an ARPU of 4,400 JPY and a lower churn rate of 1.17%, while AI, cloud and data center services grew strongly. Management reaffirmed the full-year forecast, stressed further investments in AI, cloud and security and plans three years of growth investments totaling 1 trillion JPY. KDDI buys 14.9% of Coincheck Group for $65 million
KDDI acquired 28,536,516 newly issued ordinary shares of Coincheck Group at $2.28 each and now holds about 14.9% of the outstanding shares for approximately $65.1 million. KDDI receives registration rights for the shares and can nominate one person as a non-executive board member at the next annual general meeting. KDDI invests $65 million for 14.9% stake in Coincheck Group
KDDI is acquiring 28,536,516 new common shares of Coincheck Group at $2.28 per share and will, upon completion of the transaction, hold an expected 14.9% of the outstanding common shares. The $65 million payment is to be completed in June 2026; KDDI will receive registration rights and may nominate one person to the board of directors at the next annual general meeting. At the same time, Japanese subsidiary Coincheck, Inc. and KDDI concluded a business alliance to jointly expand the digital asset market in Japan. J.P.
