    Fitch has raised the outlook for Mercury General from "stable" to "positive" and affirmed the financial strength rating at A- and the long-term issuer default rating at BBB. The reasons are a strengthened capital base and higher retained earnings: the regulatory surplus rose from $1.7 billion at end‑2023 to $2.8 billion at end‑H1 2026, while the operating leverage fell from 2.7x to 2.2x.
