FDA approves Moderna vaccines for 2026–2027 COVID-19 season
The FDA has approved supplemental applications for Moderna’s adapted COVID-19 vaccines Spikevax and mNEXSPIKE for the 2026–2027 season. Both formulations are monovalent and targeted at the XFG subvariant of the JN.1 lineage; Spikevax is authorized for people from 6 months with risk factors and all those 65 and older, while mNEXSPIKE is authorized for people 12 to 64 with risk factors and all those 65 and older. Moderna expects the updated vaccines to be available in the coming days; the formulations have already received approvals in several countries and are under review worldwide. Moderna plans issuance of $2 billion convertible notes due 2032
Moderna announced a private placement of senior, unsecured convertible notes with an aggregate principal amount of $2.0 billion maturing in 2032, with a 13-day greenshoe option of up to $300 million. The notes pay no ongoing interest; upon conversion Moderna may, at its option, settle in cash, shares or a combination. Net proceeds are intended for capped-call transactions and general corporate purposes, including expansion of its oncology business and debt reduction.
