MultiChoice shuts down streaming service Showmax due to high losses
MultiChoice announces it will shut down streaming service Showmax after a review of its streaming operations; the annual losses are no longer sustainable. The company does not expect any job cuts and will discuss transition options with employees. Instead, MultiChoice plans to build its own streaming platform for African and international customers and will continue to invest in premium content, technology and partnerships. MultiChoice to be delisted from JSE and A2X on 10 December after full acquisition by CANAL+
CANAL+ completed the compulsory acquisition of the remaining MultiChoice shares on 5 December and paid the consideration to MultiChoice in accordance with the South African Companies Act. The delisting of MultiChoice shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and A2X will take effect at the start of trading on 10 December, after all required regulatory approvals were granted.
