Rio Tinto simplifies into three core units and places several assets under review
New CEO Simon Trott has reorganized Rio Tinto into three core business units — iron ore, copper, and a combined aluminium–lithium group — and put assets including borates in California, Richards Bay Minerals and Quebec operations under strategic review that could lead to divestments. The move includes senior appointments (Matthew Holcz for iron ore, Jérôme Pécresse for aluminium–lithium) and notable departures (Kellie Parker, Sinead Kaufman) as the company faces weaker commodity prices and a drop in half-year profit. The overhaul aims to sharpen focus and improve returns amid two years of cash-flow weakness in parts of the minerals division. » More on finance.yahoo.com
