Universal Display faces hedge fund short over AI-driven spending shift
Prosper Stars & Stripes disclosed a short position in Universal Display, arguing the AI infrastructure investment boom is crowding out consumer electronics spending and will pressure component costs and demand. The fund expects tech cost inflation (eg, DRAM) and a K-shaped consumer recovery to weaken back-to-school and holiday sales, making company forecasts optimistic. Universal Display closed at $76.62 on Sept. 14, 2026, is down 9.27% over the past month and 44.06% over 52 weeks, with a market cap of $3.52 billion. » More on finance.yahoo.com
Universal Display falls to 52-week low of $76.30
Universal Display's stock hit a new 52-week low at $76.30, leaving it down about 42.9% year-to-date. For Q2 2026 the company reported revenue of $152.2 million and earnings per share of $1.06; revenue missed analysts' expectations and prompted management to adjust the full-year revenue guidance to the low end of the $630–670 million range. InvestingPro rates the stock as undervalued and highlights a gross profit margin of 74% and more cash than debt. Oppenheimer and Needham cut their price targets (to $120 and $100, respectively) but kept positive ratings; Universal Display also introduced the new OLED architecture OLEDX. » More on de.investing.com
Universal Display sees growth potential for OLED in IT and automotive
At the Citi conference Universal Display gave a cautiously constructive outlook, emphasizing long-term growth from OLED adoption in IT devices and the automotive sector despite short-term smartphone weakness. Customers invested about $20 billion in Gen-8.6 fabs; two of four major projects are already in mass production, expanding capacity for IT applications. For 2026 the company expects gross margins of 74–76% and operating margins of 34–37%; cash exceeds $800 million. Technological advances in phosphorescent blue and the OLEDX platform could support demand, but both technologies are still under development. » More on de.investing.com
