Wirecard: Markus Braun faces prison sentence of more than ten years
The Munich Higher Regional Court considers the suspicion of fraud against former CEO Markus Braun to be substantiated and rejected his appeal against pretrial detention. The decision is based on findings from more than 200 witness statements in over 230 hearings; the suspicion has recently intensified. The court also sees a risk of flight and evidence tampering, because Braun may have put assets aside amounting to tens of millions. An expert report by the insolvency administrator on MB Beteiligungsgesellschaft suggests that Markus Braun’s pooled assets are largely lost or have been moved outside the EU. Artworks by well-known artists and several vehicles cannot be found, and numerous claims against the company have so far gone unsubstantiated. Shortly after the insolvency was opened, 366 creditors filed claims totaling over 67 million euros, but the administrator recognized only around four million euros in summer 2024. » More on handelsblatt.com
