Federal Department of Finance files appeal against acquittal of ex-Credit Suisse head of risk

The Federal Department of Finance (FDF) has lodged a complaint against the dismissal of proceedings concerning former Credit Suisse compliance officer Lara Warner. The Federal Criminal Court had closed the case, finding that the statute of limitations had already expired; key funds from the Mozambique scandal had been untraceable since early 2017. The FDF had previously fined Warner CHF 100,000 for breaching reporting obligations. Case against former Credit Suisse compliance chief Lara Warner in tuna-bonds scandal dropped due to statute of limitations

A Swiss court has discontinued the criminal proceedings against Lara Warner, former head of compliance at Credit Suisse, on formal grounds because the seven-year limitation period for her reporting obligations expired at the beginning of 2024. Warner had been accused of not filing a suspicious activity report between 2016 and 2018 concerning a $7.9 million payment linked to the $2 billion tuna-bonds scandal; the court found that she had willfully violated her reporting duties. Credit Suisse in focus over indications of hundreds of Nazi-linked accounts

At a U.S. Senate hearing, Senator Chuck Grassley accused Credit Suisse, now part of UBS, of having indications of 890 accounts with possible Nazi links and of withholding details from investigators. An investigative team led by Neil Barofsky is reviewing documents; the main controversy concerns the publication of fewer than 300 of roughly 16.5 million files. A preliminary assessment values suspected assets in a small package of accounts at about 30 million Swiss francs; the final report is expected by year-end.
