Entain to consult on 400 job cuts after stronger-than-expected H1 profit

Entain has started a consultation to cut about 400 roles, potentially one in five of its 2,000 customer care positions, citing a challenging operating environment and the need to remain competitive. The announcement follows an underlying H1 operating profit of £479m, slightly below last year but above expectations. Entain announces company-wide job cuts due to tax increases and intensified competition

Entain plans company-wide job cuts in response to higher taxes on online gambling and growing competitive pressure from prediction markets. The company expects the tax changes to add around £200m in annual costs and aims to offset part of this through group-wide cost reductions, which are expected to cover more than 50% of the burden. SocGen has reduced its reported voting stake in Entain from 5.705% to 4.964%, thereby falling below the notification threshold. The bank holds 31,459,436 direct voting rights plus a further 0.048% via predominantly cash-settled difference contracts, totaling 31,765,134 voting rights.
