Erste Group paid the €6.8 billion takeover of Santander’s Polish unit entirely from its own funds, so the dividend for 2025 falls from €3.00 to €0.75 per share. Despite the dividend effect, the bank reported a net profit of €3.5 billion for the past fiscal year, an increase versus 2024. Loan volume rose to €232.0 billion, deposits to €253.0 billion, and the group is targeting a net profit of around €4 billion and loan volume of about €285 billion for 2026. Erste Group, together with A1 Telekom Austria and Vienna-based quantum startup Zerothird, has integrated quantum encryption into its existing fiber-optic network and successfully tested it during live banking operations. The aim is to gradually convert international infrastructure to quantum-secure links, notably a physically demanding connection between Vienna and Frankfurt under the “Quapital” project, which also involves the EU.
