Sojitz misses profit target for FY2025, transformation convinces investors

Sojitz reported a profit of JPY 103.6 billion for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2026, missing the JPY 115 billion forecast; nevertheless the stock rose 6.11%. The company stressed progress in its portfolio transformation: non-commodity businesses now contribute 86.4% to profit (FY2020: 27.2%), and energy-saving solutions, infrastructure and chemicals are among the main growth drivers. For FY2026 Sojitz targets a profit of JPY 130 billion and, under the Medium-term Management Plan 2026, aims for JPY 200 billion profit and a 15% ROE by 2030. Sojitz reported a consolidated profit of 80.4 billion JPY for the first nine months of fiscal 2025, up 5.7% year on year and representing 70% of the annual target of 115 billion JPY. Revenue increased to 1,985.8 billion JPY, driven by energy solutions & healthcare and transport & infrastructure; market capitalization exceeded 1.0 trillion JPY. The company made substantial investments in critical infrastructure (112 billion JPY of new investments), including a 50% stake in UGL’s transport division, and raised the dividend by 10% to 165 JPY; the share buyback program was completed.
