Under a provisional agreement with the union Unifor, General Motors will invest CAD 1.1 billion in Canada’s auto sector. CAD 144 million of that is earmarked for production of the next-generation heavy pickup GMC Sierra at the Oshawa plant, and GM also pledged not to sell or close the Ingersoll assembly plant for the time being. The agreement still needs to be approved by around 4,600 union members.
