Kuka ten years after Midea takeover: stability, growth in Asia and job adjustments

Ten years after the takeover by Midea, Kuka has developed into a broadly positioned automation provider and now generates roughly one third of its business in each of Europe, America and Asia. Growth is coming mainly from China, while demand in Europe is stagnating and the automotive industry, an important customer, is weakening. Cuts are planned at the Augsburg headquarters, but socially acceptable measures, investment commitments and job guarantees until 2029 are intended to support the site. Revenue and order intake have grown moderately since 2016, the workforce has risen slightly, while Kuka plans job cuts at its Augsburg headquarters with socially acceptable arrangements. The works council and IG Metall secured employment protection until 2029 as well as investments of over €100 million.
