Since summer 2024 Stellantis has held at least eleven meetings with members of the "Patriots for Europe" group, according to an analysis of the EU transparency register. The purpose of the contacts was to gain support for loosening the EU's planned ban on combustion engines, a position also pursued by industry association ACEA and other manufacturers. Stellantis has temporarily put production on hold at its plants in Sochaux, Rennes and Mulhouse; the disruption is expected to last at least one week. The reason is a shortage of batteries for long-range electric cars, which are particularly in high demand among fleet customers.
