American Eagle posts stronger Q2 results but tariff refunds inflate profitability
American Eagle reported Q2 revenue of $1.38 billion (+8% YoY), operating profit of $211 million (vs $103 million) and EPS of $0.79, aided by a $196 million IEEPA tariff refund that added about $179 million to gross profit and $161 million to operating income. Comparable sales rose 6% company-wide and 19% at Aerie, while the American Eagle brand saw a 1% decline; gross margin widened to 48.7%. Management updated fiscal 2026 operating income guidance to $540–550 million including the refund, implying underlying operating income below prior guidance, and investor positioning showed reduced hedge fund ownership and 10.16% short interest. » More on finance.yahoo.com
American Eagle Outfitters stock falls after Q2 results despite profit gain
The stock plunged about 11.6% in premarket trading even though adjusted EPS of $0.79 beat expectations. Earnings were materially supported by one-time duty refunds of $161 million, which inflated the operating margin by roughly 1,170 basis points and will not recur. Core brand American Eagle saw declining comparable-store sales, while Aerie and OFFLINE grew strongly; inventory rose 14%, and the outlook for Q3 signals a sharp decline in operating income. Investors reduced expectations for the remainder of the fiscal year, pushing the share price toward its 52-week low. » More on de.investing.com
