Possible closure of Wacker Chemie plant in Tennessee weighs on stock
The Wacker Chemie share fell about 3.4% after reports said the company was considering closing its plant in Charleston, Tennessee, which has around 600 employees. According to the report, the facility recently lost its two remaining customers as a result of US trade measures aimed at supporting domestic polysilicon. Wacker Chemie says it is too early to assess the impact and is in talks with the US government; a final decision on the site is expected in the coming weeks. » More on de.investing.com
WACKER CHEMIE does not plan to close Charleston plant
WACKER CHEMIE said there are no plans to close its polysilicon plant in Charleston (Tennessee). Reports had portrayed the plant as at risk because of U.S. trade policy and lost customers; the company says it is holding constructive talks with the U.S. government, as the recent proclamation in its current form does not effectively encourage the use of polysilicon produced in the United States. WACKER has been producing in Charleston since 2016 and invested around $2.5 billion when the plant started operations; the stock reacted with losses. » More on finanzen.net
Wacker Chemie benefits short-term from improved sentiment in the chemical industry
The ifo Institute reports a marked shift in sentiment in the German chemical industry, with the industry indicator jumping to +11.6 points in August. According to ifo, the main cause is a special cyclical boost from supply outages in the Gulf region due to the war, while structural problems in Germany persist. Wacker recently slightly lowered its sales forecast but raised its EBITDA target to €625–750 million. For shareholders this calls for increased vigilance: the positive industry trend may be temporary, while Wacker’s medium-term technical uptrend remains intact. » More on finanzen.net
