Airtel Africa increases first-quarter revenue by 31% and beats analysts' estimates
Airtel Africa reported first-quarter revenue of USD 1.85 billion (up 31% year-on-year), above the consensus of USD 1.66 billion. Basic earnings per share rose 27% to 4.4 cents, and profit before exceptional items increased 57%. Customer numbers grew to 189 million (up 11.6%); data revenue was up 27.2% and mobile-money revenue up 25.8% on a constant-currency basis. Adjusted EBITDA was USD 928 million (expectation USD 796.17 million); the company repurchased 10.2 million shares and warned of margin pressure from higher energy costs. Airtel Africa: High Court approves cancellation of capital reserve
The High Court of England and Wales has approved the cancellation of Airtel Africa's capital reserve. Shareholders had already approved the reduction of capital at the general meeting. The measure creates additional distributable reserves for future dividends, profit distributions or share buybacks, while share rights and issued share capital remain unchanged.
