Burford Capital says YPF write-down is non-cash, highlights core portfolio cash generation
Burford Capital reported a non-cash write-down on its YPF asset after an adverse court ruling, but management said the investment already produced over $100 million in cash and that the company will pursue an en banc appeal while preparing for arbitration. Excluding YPF, Burford said its diversified litigation finance portfolio includes 237 active assets (roughly 900 cases), more than £1 billion of undrawn commitments, and is modeled to generate over $5 billion of future cash. Q1 activity showed $133 million of new commitments, $108 million of deployments and $97 million of realizations, and the firm ended the quarter with $740 million of cash and marketable securities and no debt maturities until 2028. Management acknowledged higher leverage after the YPF write-down, said deleveraging and cash-conservation options are under review, and emphasized growth and portfolio cash harvest as the path forward. » More on finance.yahoo.com
