Crédit Agricole: record profit offset by share decline due to French yield premium
Crédit Agricole reported a nine-month net profit of €6.5 billion, its highest in history, but its shares are among the weakest European bank stocks with a decline of around 14% year-to-date. Investors view sharply higher French government yields and the increased spread versus Germany as a burden, since banks hold sovereign bonds and refinancing costs and valuation risks rise. Crédit Agricole launches retail banking in Germany with current, instant‑access and fixed‑term deposit offers
Crédit Agricole Deutschland now allows account openings via an app and offers a free current account with a Visa debit card, but without an overdraft facility and without cash deposit options. The instant‑access savings rate at 1.50% is well below the market average, while fixed‑term deposits of up to seven years offer interest rates of up to 3.40% (24 months). Deposit protection applies up to €100,000 via the German Creditplus Bank; the separate savings platform under French protection does not withhold the German capital gains tax (Abgeltungsteuer). From 2027, loans, investment products and insurance are to follow, with a target of two million customers by the end of 2028. » More on t-online.de
IKB sold to Crédit Agricole and ends nearly 20-year dry spell
IKB is being taken over by Crédit Agricole, which should improve its access to funding and allow it to make larger loans to mid-sized corporate customers. The takeover ends a strain that has lasted since the 2007 financial crisis, during which legacy burdens such as a large bond portfolio and former owner Lone Star weighed on the balance sheet and the supervisory environment. With the purchase, IKB will likely shed its stigma and probably its name, while around 600 employees will feel relieved. » More on faz.net
