GlobalFoundries modernizes data platform with Redpanda for real-time streaming
GlobalFoundries is replacing its change-data-capture infrastructure with Redpanda to stream equipment, process and scientific manufacturing data in real time and to connect core systems. Tier-0 systems are already in production, and the platform is being rolled out at global sites. GlobalFoundries beat revenue and earnings forecasts for the second quarter (revenue $1.79bn, adjusted EPS $0.46) as well as non‑IFRS gross profit, yet the stock fell about 5.1% premarket. GlobalFoundries to receive up to $300 million as Commerce takes minority stakes in seven chip companies
The Department of Commerce, via NIST and the CHIPS R&D Office, signed letters of intent to provide a combined $874 million in federal incentives for R&D in semiconductors and advanced photonics in exchange for minority, non-controlling equity stakes in seven companies. GlobalFoundries is slated to receive up to $300 million, Kepler up to $245 million and Multibeam up to $140 million, with remaining funds allocated to Extropic, Thintronics, Obsidia Semiconductors and Aeluma.
