Just Eat faces tribunal from 7,000 couriers over worker status and pay
More than 7,000 Just Eat couriers have launched an employment tribunal claiming they should be classed as workers entitled to the national minimum wage and holiday pay. The tribunal, running until 2 June, will decide whether couriers are workers or self-employed; judgment is expected later in 2026. The claims follow Just Eat’s 2023 return to a gig-economy model that saw about 1,700 couriers dismissed and are being led by law firm Leigh Day amid wider UK moves to reform gig-economy employment rules. » More on theguardian.com

Just Eat Takeaway.com is parting ways with founder and CEO Jitse Groen; Roberto Gandolfo will assume the role on 1 January 2026. Prosus acquired the group in August 2025 and intends to steer JET into a new phase; Gandolfo brings experience from iFood. JET operates in 16 countries, generated around €5 billion in revenue in 2024 and posted a net loss of nearly €1.6 billion; in January 2025 JET sold its US business Grubhub. Just Eat Takeaway announced that founder and CEO Jitse Groen will step down from his role on 1 January 2026 and be succeeded by Roberto Gandolfo, subject to approval by the Dutch central bank. Gandolfo joins from Prosus and brings more than ten years’ experience at iFood; Fabricio Bloisi will become chairman of the supervisory board.
