  • Lenzing warns of production risks from warm, scarce cooling water

At fiber producer Lenzing, the unusually high water temperature of Lake Attersee (currently around 24°C) and increasing water scarcity are causing production problems at the Lenzing site. The company denies rumours of an impending production halt and stresses that production is running as planned, but it is closely monitoring the hydrological situation and in contact with authorities. A planned intake from cooler deep-water layers has not yet been implemented, so short-term operational adjustments and accelerated maintenance could be used as responses. Nationwide, industry-related water use volumes are largely unknown; a central withdrawal register for major users is planned to improve forecasting and preparedness for extreme weather events. » More on kurier.at

  • ATX closes slightly lower; Lenzing weighs with heavy losses

The ATX fell 0.32 percent to 6,334.06 points. Lenzing plunged 14.1 percent after announcing 2,000 job cuts by the end of 2027 and a capital raise of up to €300 million. Palfinger lost 9.8 percent after reporting results, AT&S fell 7.3 percent, while energy stocks also declined on lower oil prices. Raiffeisen stood out as the biggest gainer, up 3.6 percent; markets are also watching the Fed interest-rate decision. » More on finanzen.net

  • Lenzing to cut about 2,000 jobs, close and sell two plants

Lenzing plans to cut around 2,000 jobs by the end of 2027 and to phase out production in Heiligenkreuz and Grimsby with subsequent plans to sell the sites. The move is driven by several years of losses, high energy prices, strong competition from Asia and strains from the US tariff conflict. Major shareholders B&C and Suzano are to provide up to €600 million for the realignment, aiming for higher profitability and a focus on higher‑value fibers. For 2026 Lenzing expects impairments on property, plant and equipment of up to €150 million, which will weigh on group results. » More on faz.net
