National Australia Bank: weak mortgage applications weigh on stock despite profit rise
National Australia Bank shares fell 4.1% to A$39.67 after the Q3 trading update showed a 15% decline in home loan applications versus the prior quarter. Underlying cash profit was A$1.83bn (+2% vs. the H1 quarterly average), statutory net profit rose to A$1.81bn (+32%), but the cash profit missed analyst consensus. Positives included a 2% increase in business lending (Business & Private Banking +4%) and a CET1 ratio of 11.93%; these factors did not curb the market reaction â the ASX 200 fell 0.5%. » More on de.investing.com
NAB: adjusted profit rises, revenue falls well short of expectations
National Australia Bank reports adjusted profit growth of 6.4% for H1 2026, while statutory profit fell 18% due to accelerated software write-downs. Revenue of $5.38bn was 48.8% below analysts' expectations, weighing on the stock. The bank keeps the dividend at 85 cents, strengthens its balance sheet and risk provisions, expects further productivity gains and highlights progress on technology and AI. Investors remain cautious because of the revenue shortfall and the decline in statutory profit; the stock fell about 1.9% on the day of the release. » More on de.investing.com
