Peabody receives US funding to develop rare earths
Peabody was selected by the US Department of Energy for a grant to advance production of rare earths and critical minerals from deposits in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming. The company had already received a grant from the Wyoming Energy Authority and stresses that the work is intended to support the build-up of a domestic supply chain for energy-, technology- and security-relevant materials. Peabody appoints Bryan Quinn as president of global operations
Peabody names Bryan Quinn, effective August 1, 2026, as president of global operations; he will report to the chief operating officer, lead global operations from Brisbane and be a member of the executive leadership team. Peabody places $225 million convertible bond due 2031
Peabody has issued a privately placed $225 million convertible bond (coupon 0.50%) maturing on June 1, 2031; settlement is scheduled for June 2, 2026 and investors have an option on an additional $25 million. The initial conversion rate is 26.0970 shares per $1,000 principal (conversion price approx. $38.32), about 32.5% above the latest volume-weighted average price. Peabody plans to use about $15 million for capped-call transactions and to apply the remaining proceeds together with cash to repurchase existing convertible bonds (principal approx. $241.2 million) for about $388.8 million.
