Polestar says it was blindsided by US sales ban
Polestar says communications with the US Commerce Department led it to expect approval to continue selling its EVs, but its application was denied despite Volvo receiving authorization under a similar ownership structure. The company says it offered mitigation measures such as audits, data storage limits and restrictions on remote access, which BIS declined to discuss. Polestar will halt US sales starting with the 2027 model year, is pressing the administration for an explanation and faces a dealer lawsuit alleging it engineered the exit. » More on theverge.com
Polestar exits US, leaving owners and dealers facing service and resale uncertainty
Polestar said it will stop selling vehicles in the US from the 2027 model year after federal authorities denied authorization over Chinese-origin connected vehicle software, creating uncertainty for thousands of owners and dozens of dealers. Dealers must continue honoring warranties and lease returns, but some service centers are already dissolving and dealers face heavy fixed costs and potential closures. Polestar says warranties and support will be maintained while dealers and owners worry about software updates, resale values and how a reduced dealer network will handle future service needs. » More on theverge.com
