The NTSB’s preliminary report says a fan blade on the No. 2 CFM56-7B26 engine of a Ryanair Boeing 737 separated shortly after takeoff, sending engine fragments into the fuselage, shattering a window and partially ejecting a passenger who was pulled back into the cabin. Examination found fatigue cracking on the broken blade and deformation of other blades; bird remains were also recovered in the engine.
