  • Etna ash brings flight operations to a standstill – Deutsche Lufthansa faces short-term costs and disruptions

A cloud of Etna ash led to the temporary closure of Catania airport until 10 p.m. and the cancellation of several dozen flights, causing rebookings, diversions and additional hotel and transfer costs for airlines. Affected carriers face revenue losses and higher logistical costs, especially if closures last several days and flight schedules and crew deployments are disrupted. Markets are treating the incident as a short-term operational risk for now; Deutsche Lufthansa was up about 0.5% in the afternoon, and larger share-price effects are considered unlikely provided the disruption does not persist. » More on deraktionaer.de

  • Lufthansa sees additional competition from Emirates at BER

The German government has granted Emirates additional traffic rights in Germany, meaning the airline will likely be allowed to connect Berlin‑Brandenburg (BER) with Dubai and thus intensify international competition for Lufthansa in Berlin. The new flights are limited to a maximum of seven services per week and may not offer onward flights to third countries from the new German base. Lufthansa is critical of the decision, while Condor and Eurowings are also planning direct Berlin–Dubai services, further increasing competitive pressure; at the same time, rising oil prices are weighing on the stock. » More on deraktionaer.de

  • Lufthansa resumes flights to Dubai with up to 36 connections per week

From the end of October 2026 Lufthansa will gradually return to Dubai and plans up to 36 weekly flights at peak; Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings are also launching services. The aim is to strengthen its presence in the Middle East and expand the offering across multiple hubs. Analysts remain largely skeptical despite the network expansion (consensus: Moderate Sell) and expect only limited short‑term share‑price effects; reliable indications of financial impact are unlikely before the results due in early November. » More on finanzen.net
