Wendy’s stock plunges after Trian reportedly abandons takeover plans
Wendy’s shares fell more than 14% in premarket trading after Reuters reported that Trian Fund Management, led by Nelson Peltz, is not currently preparing a takeover bid. Trian, a long-standing shareholder with about a 16% stake, is said to have concerns about Wendy’s business performance, valuation and strategic direction; the stock had briefly risen to about $9 in early August amid takeover rumors. According to sources, however, Trian is still keeping all options open for the future. » More on de.investing.com
Trian postpones takeover plans for Wendy’s, stock falls sharply
Hedge fund Trian has put its plans for a takeover offer for Wendy’s on hold for the time being, after which the stock plunged about 14.8% in after-hours trading. In early August takeover speculation had lifted the share to a nine-month high and the market capitalization to around $1.7 billion. Trian, an important investor with roughly a 16% stake, cites concerns about operational performance and strategy; given current price and valuation levels the fund will remain flexible for now. » More on de.investing.com
Wendy's CEO admits food quality lagged, unveils five-point turnaround plan
CEO Bob Wright said Wendy's prioritized cost cuts and promotions over ingredient quality, a shift he blames for losing the No. 2 U.S. burger-chain spot to Burger King. Wright outlined a five-point plan focused on rebuilding menu quality, value, operations, store upgrades and digital sales and has reshaped leadership, including hiring a former McDonald’s executive for marketing. The moves come as activist investor Nelson Peltz's Trian explores a possible take-private and Wendy's stock has fallen more than half from its 2024 high. » More on forbes.com
