VW presents the near-production study Mission Efficiency based on the ID.Polo drivetrain with an aerodynamic drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.158 and a frontal area of 2.08 m², setting new benchmarks for road-legal vehicles. Aerodynamic measures such as covered rear wheels, a fully sealed underbody, active cooling air flaps and tight wheel arches significantly reduce drag and cut consumption by more than 30 percent compared with the production Polo at 80 km/h. The technical basis is the MEB+ platform, a 99 kW electric motor and a high-voltage battery; WLTP consumption is stated as 8.4 kWh/100 km, while measured values on test drives were sometimes between 6.48 and 7.51 kWh/100 km. Volkswagen says it has received over 30,000 orders for the all-electric ID. Polo since sales started at the end of April, leading to longer delivery times due to limited production capacity in Martorell. More than 100,000 preorders exist for the entire vehicle family (ID.
