JOLIET — For the second weekend in a row, the Joliet police force arrested 53-year-old Ruben Hughes at one of the city's hotels. This time, Joliet police say Hughes had a loaded gun with him. Hughes was taken to the Will County Jail, where he's charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of a gun by a repeat felony offender. Last week, Hughes was freed from the Will County Jail after prosecutors did not file a pretrial detention petition asking to keep him incarcerated under the SAFE-T-Act. After he was freed, Joliet police say the Crest Hill man was causing trouble at the Wingate Inn, 101 McDonald Ave. On Saturday, at 5:52 p.m., officers responded to the Wingate Inn for an unwanted person. Upon arrival, the officers learned that Hughes had previously been evicted from the hotel and had returned to retrieve his belongings. Officers accompanied Hughes to his guest room so that he could retrieve his belongings. While in the room, police say officers saw a handgun in an open dresser drawer. Officers placed Hughes into custody and recovered the loaded handgun from the drawer.
