Absa increases H1 2026 profit by 8% — South Africa drives growth

The Absa Group reports a total result of 12.8bn ZAR for H1 2026 (+8%) with revenue of 58.8bn ZAR (+4%) and a return on equity of 15%. The South Africa business posted a 17% rise in profit, while income in other African regions fell by 10% due to interest rate cuts in Ghana and Kenya. Absa Group repays $500m bond and seeks delisting in London

Absa Group announces the repayment of its fixed-rate-reset-write-off bonds with a volume of $500 million (ISIN XS2339102878) at par plus accrued interest. The record date for the bonds is 26 May 2026, and repayment will take place on 28 May 2026. Absa Group has completed the placement of a subordinated, callable Tier‑2 bond with a fixed‑rate reset in the amount of USD 150 million at a price of 100% (ISIN XS3225241457). Morgan Stanley & Co. International and Absa Bank acted as stabilisation managers, but no stabilisation measures were taken.
