Barclays increases stake in Central Asia Metals to 5.3%
Barclays has increased its holding in Central Asia Metals to 5.3% of the voting rights, thereby triggering a reporting obligation. At the reference date Barclays held 5.07% directly through shares and 0.23% via financial instruments, including a recall agreement, portfolio swaps (maturities Nov. 2026–Apr. 2027) and contracts for difference; all instruments provide for cash settlement. MFS files for insolvency — Barclays among affected creditors
British mortgage financier Market Financial Solutions (MFS) has filed for insolvency. Banks and investment firms had arranged loans of more than £2 billion to MFS; Barclays and Atlas SP (Apollo) each extended loans worth several hundred million dollars. Barclays raises profit and plans repayments of over £15 billion
Barclays reports a 16% rise in profit for 2025 to just under £6.2 billion and a return on equity of 11.3%. The bank is targeting a return of more than 14% by 2028, driven by further cost cuts and higher revenues. Between 2026 and 2028 it plans to return more than £15 billion to investors through share buybacks and dividends.
