Calbee switches to black-and-white packaging in Japan due to naphtha shortages
Supply disruptions from the war in Iran have affected Japan's supply of naphtha, leading to shortages of plastics, ink and medical consumables. Calbee will sell 14 popular products from the end of May in black-and-white bags instead of colorfully printed packaging to avoid looming ink and film shortages during the potato harvest. The government is releasing surgical gloves from state stocks and trying to secure alternative sources, while companies like Toyota warn of heavy strains from higher prices or disruptions to raw materials. » More on faz.net
Calbee to switch snack packaging to black-and-white amid naphtha shortage
Calbee warned it will move its products from colorful packaging to black-and-white labels by the end of the month due to a shortage of naphtha, an ink ingredient derived from petroleum. The shortage stems from disruptions to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz after recent attacks on Iran, which has also affected other manufacturers and industries. Calbee's packaging change is one of several emerging supply-chain impacts linked to the conflict that are raising costs and production constraints globally. » More on forbes.com
