Profit slump weighs on Japan Airlines share
Japan Airlines reported a 72% plunge in operating profit to „12.7 billion for the first quarter (AprilâJune 2026), missing its own forecast by „12.0 billion. The decline was driven by sharply higher operating costs, especially elevated jet fuel prices following heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, despite better-than-expected revenue in international passenger, cargo and low-cost carrier segments. Rival ANA posted a similarly steep profit drop, indicating industry-wide headwinds from fuel costs. Japan Airlines to trial Chinese-made humanoid robots as baggage handlers at Haneda
Japan Airlines will deploy Chinese-made humanoid robots on a trial basis from early May at Tokyo Haneda to move luggage and cargo on the tarmac, with the experiment running until 2028. The robots, manufactured by Unitree and introduced with partner GMO Internet Group, can operate for two to three hours and may also be used for tasks like cabin cleaning.
