Worldwide asset freeze on Paresh Raja after MFS collapse amid £1.3bn alleged shortfall
A £1.3bn worldwide freezing order has been granted against Paresh Raja, founder of mortgage lender MFS, with courts in London and Dubai also imposing a travel ban. The order follows insolvency practitioners at AlixPartners’ investigation after MFS and related companies, including Zircon Bridging and Amber Bridging, went into administration in February. Creditors allege funds were extracted through connected borrower companies and that some loans may be unsecured or double-pledged, leaving banks and private-credit funds such as Barclays, Jefferies, Santander, Elliott, Castlelake and Apollo exposed. » More on theguardian.com
MFS Investment Management hedges against bond risks and reduces high-yield exposures
MFS Investment Management sees three main dangers for corporate bonds — the Middle East conflict with higher oil prices and inflation, possible disruption from AI, and problems in the private-credit segment — and therefore views markets as more vulnerable. Fund manager Pilar Gomez-Bravo has reduced exposures to high-yield bonds, trimmed positions in bank and well-rated corporate bonds, and selectively taken on new issues.
