Mitsubishi HC Capital America says bank exits tighten truck financing for mid-size fleets
After a three-and-a-half-year freight downturn many banks left truck lending, shrinking competition and leaving Mitsubishi HC Capital America and a few others to finance mid-size fleets. Credit profiles of carriers deteriorated, leading to tighter access and financing costs ranging roughly from 5.25% for investment-grade private fleets to 12% or higher for lower-credit operators. Demand is driven mainly by deferred replacement rather than EPA 2027 pre-buying, with most buyers choosing new trucks, and lenders now place heavy emphasis on carriers' cost-per-mile metrics and stronger documentation. Mitsubishi improved asset recoveries by building an asset management function, but limited build slots and cautious underwriting keep expansion muted. » More on finance.yahoo.com
