Origin Agritech shifts strategy to proprietary maize seed
Origin Agritech announced in Q2 FY2026 a strategic shift to direct sales of proprietary maize seed products, accompanied by significant cost reductions and an expansion of breeding programs including recognition of the geneâediting platform Hi3. Origin Agritech: Hi3-gen-editing in China recognized as scientific breakthrough
The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences selected Origin Agritechâs Hi3âgenâediting technology for haploid maize induction lines as one of the ten most important agricultural science advances of 2025. The method, developed with Hainan Aoyu Biotech and China Agricultural University, is said to improve maize inbred lines to high-yield performance within one year and save three to four years compared with conventional breeding. Origin reports initial field trials with yield increases, is pursuing commercialization and benefits from accelerated biosafety approvals in China.
