  • Qantas shares rise after stronger-than-expected profit and new business-class suites

Qantas reported underlying profit before tax of A$2.06 billion for the year to June 30, about 3% above Visible Alpha consensus, and saw international premium cabin revenue grow 15% in fiscal 2026. The airline unveiled new lie-flat business-class seats with privacy doors for its Airbus A321XLR fleet and updated seats for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Qantas expects domestic and international unit revenue to increase 8%–10% in H1 fiscal 2027 despite higher fuel costs, and Citi maintained a buy rating citing strength in Jetstar and Qantas Loyalty. » More on cnbc.com

  • Qantas to retire A380 early and consider fare increases as profits fall

Qantas reported a drop in underlying pre-tax profit to $2.06bn, its lowest in four years, after absorbing about $610m in higher fuel costs. The airline will begin retiring its A380 fleet from 2028 and expects to buy up to 20 replacement aircraft from 2030, with A350-1000s and Boeing 787s under consideration. Qantas says it may raise ticket prices and will expand ancillary fees at Jetstar, including recent carry-on charges, to boost revenue. Loyalty earnings grew and helped offset some pressure, while overall group revenue rose 7% to $25.5bn. » More on theguardian.com

  • Qantas A380 flew two days with a work light left in wing

A Qantas Airbus A380 underwent air‑conditioning maintenance in Sydney on January 7 and departed for Dallas with a 13‑inch battery work light accidentally left inside the left wing. The light was not detected during foreign object checks and was only discovered after the aircraft returned to Sydney two days later; Qantas reported no flight impact. The airline voluntarily reported the event to investigators and said it has tightened tool control procedures, including a mandatory pre‑clearance check. The ATSB noted a previous incident in 2023 where a tool was left in an A380 engine and flown for nearly a month before discovery. » More on yahoo.com
