Sanrio shares plunge after disappointing quarterly profit
Sanrio reported an operating profit of ¥22.44 billion for the first quarter, missing the Bloomberg consensus of ¥23.4 billion, after which the stock at one point fell as much as 20% and was last down around 18.5%. Net sales rose 20.7% to ¥52.04 billion, and profit attributable to parent company shareholders increased 9.3%. Regional headwinds emerged in North America and Asia from higher marketing and selling and administrative costs, which dampened earnings growth.
