  • Sherritt Int. seeks dissolution of its nickel joint venture in Cuba over US sanctions

    Sherritt Int. intends to end the partnership with Cuba’s General Nickel Company SA after new US sanctions affected business on the island. The company has offered to swap its 50% stake in the Moa mine in exchange for full ownership of the refinery in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and is seeking C$277m in compensation from its partner. Sherritt warns the unwinding process could take months to years and has applied for a court order to speed it up; it also plans to relinquish its stake in Energas.
