Towa Pharmaceutical recalls duloxetine after detection of elevated nitrosamine impurity

Towa Pharmaceutical voluntarily recalled thousands of bottles of the antidepressant duloxetine after tests found N-nitroso-duloxetine levels exceeding FDA recommended limits. The pills, distributed by Breckenridge Pharmaceutical, prompted a Class II recall due to possible increased cancer risk from prolonged exposure to nitrosamine impurities, though no direct link to cancer has been established.
