Toyota rises after reports of possible US tariff cut for cars made in Canada
Toyota shares jumped after reports said the US government was considering cutting tariffs on vehicles imported from Canada from 25% to 15% as part of a trade agreement. A lower tariff burden would reduce costs for Toyota vehicles assembled in Ontario and thus ease pressure on manufacturers with production in Canada. Toyota accelerates cost cuts and AI-driven efficiency under new CEO Kenta Kon
New Toyota CEO Kenta Kon announced a stepped-up efficiency drive as the company faces headwinds from the Middle East conflict, US import tariffs, rising Chinese competition and higher energy and component costs. He expects operating margin to fall to about 6.3% for the fiscal year to March 2027, down from 7.4% previously, and said there is "plenty of room for improvement." Toyota: former chief Hiroshi Okuda dies at 93
Hiroshi Okuda, who led Toyota as president and chairman in the late 1990s and early 2000s, has died at the age of 93. In 1995 Okuda became the first person outside the founding Toyoda family to be named president and pursued international expansion, including factories in France and the United States. He promoted the development of the hybrid vehicle Prius and served as chairman from 1999 to 2006; afterwards he remained connected to the company as a senior adviser and board member. » More on de.investing.com
