  • Trainline investigated by CMA over drip pricing as shares fall 14%

The Competition and Markets Authority has opened an investigation into Trainline over alleged 'drip pricing' and non-transparent mandatory fees. Trainline says it has engaged with the CMA for months and is taking steps to improve fee presentation, and no wrongdoing has been found so far. The probe triggered a 14% share drop and comes as Trainline faces the potential launch of a rival fee-free ticketing app from Great British Railways. » More on theguardian.com

  • Trainline falls about 15% after UK competition authority opens formal probe

Trainline shares plunged around 15% after the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched a formal investigation into whether mandatory fees were being hidden in the Trainline app and on the website. The CMA cites observed add-on costs between 59p and £2.79 for train journeys and a £1.50 booking fee for bus trips, and is examining possible deception through so‑called “drip pricing.” If a breach of law is found, compensation claims and fines of up to 10% of global revenue could follow. » More on de.investing.com

  • Trainline share plunges after CMA probe over pricing

The UK competition authority, the CMA, has opened a formal investigation into Trainline over transparency of price displays in its app and website and is examining possible use of “drip‑pricing”. The stock then fell about 14% to 208.98p. Under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 the CMA can impose substantial fines and require refunds; a recent precedent was a £4.2m fine for drip‑pricing. Trainline stresses it is cooperating with the regulator and will improve the presentation of mandatory fees, but investors remain nervous about potential fines and business changes. » More on de.investing.com
