American Airlines under pressure as pilots question CEO Robert Isom's pace of turnaround
Pilot and flight attendant unions have publicly questioned whether CEO Robert Isom can accelerate improvements at American Airlines fast enough, with the APFA previously holding a no-confidence vote and the pilots’ union considering a similar move. Isom says the carrier is rapidly implementing passenger upgrades (Starlink Wi‑Fi, seatback screens, new lounges, more premium seating) and rebuilding its network, and expects large cash inflows from a Citibank credit card deal. Management warned a rise in oil prices will cost about $1 billion in the third quarter; shares moved slightly lower on the news. » Plus sur forbes.com
American Airlines says 30% of seats generate half of revenue as it adds premium cabins
CEO Robert Isom said 30% of American Airlines' seats account for half the carrier's revenue, prompting a fleet reconfiguration to add more premium and business-class options. The airline unveiled a 70-suite business class on its Boeing 777-300ER and plans further interior refreshes on 787-8s and 777-200s while ordering new wide-body aircraft. Competitors, including low-cost carriers, are also adding higher-yielding seats as airlines seek to offset rising fuel costs. » Plus sur cnbc.com
American Airlines warns fuel spike could cut into profits despite strong demand
American Airlines expects third-quarter revenue to grow 16%–19% with broad strength across corporate, international, premium and coach travel, and is rebuilding its network and expanding premium seating and the AAdvantage-Citi co‑brand partnership. Management says fourth‑quarter fuel has risen roughly $1 per gallon in four weeks, which could add about $1 billion to quarterly fuel expense and prompt late‑Q4 capacity reductions. The airline highlights strong corporate recovery, rising premium revenue and improved liquidity with debt down to about $36 billion, but says elevated fuel costs are the main near‑term constraint on margins. » Plus sur finance.yahoo.com
