Celanese closes Ulsan site, moves production to China and India

Celanese has halted manufacturing at its technical materials plant in Ulsan with immediate effect and is shifting volumes to Nanjing and Shenzhen in China and to Silvassa in India. The company said it will contractually support customers during the transition; the move is part of a production-network optimization to cut costs. Celanese expects strong profit jump in second quarter thanks to recovery in acetyls division

Celanese narrowly missed expectations in Q1 with adjusted earnings of $0.85 per share but presented a turnaround strategy. Management forecasts adjusted EBIT of $300–325 million for the Acetyl Chain in Q2, implying a significant sequential increase from Q1, and guides adjusted earnings per share of $2.00–2.40 for Q2.
