Sasol to invest €60 million in expanding alumina production in Brunsbüttel

Sasol will invest €60 million at its Brunsbüttel site to increase capacity for spherical, high-purity and ultra-high-purity alumina. The project, for which all building permits are in place, focuses on catalyst carriers, energy optimizations and process improvements; a general contractor is to be selected in June and commissioning is planned for around 2029. Sasol achieves first positive free cash flow in four years despite market headwinds

Sasol reported a positive free cash flow of R0.8bn in H1 2026 and cut capex by 43% to R8.5bn, while adjusted EBITDA fell 12% to R21bn. The company highlighted operational progress, including commissioning of the deashing plant, production in Secunda of 3.7m tonnes (+10%) and an improved breakeven Brent of $53/bbl.
